Stress Relief - Tips On How to Cope

Stress is a part of every day life. if you are one of the many who can find it difficult to cope with stress, read on.

We feel stressed at times, but learning to recognize when we need help and finding ways to cope can be difficult. It can be hard to admit that you are stressed but it is very important to treat stress seriously, as it can affect your health if left untreated.

One of the best ways to treat stress is exercise. This doesn’t mean that you have to join a gym or invest in very expensive equipment; you can do virtually any form of exercise as long as it raises your heart rate and lasts for at least 15 minutes, and aerobic exercise is usually perfect for this. The point of the exercise is to relieve the symptoms of stress.

Stress Relief - Some Techniques For Coping With Stress

Left unchecked the effects of stress can build up over time and yet this can easily be prevented with a few simple, but very effective, techniques.

Stress is part and parcel of normal everyday life and, while it is not impractical to talk in terms of finding a cure for chronic or long-term stress, it is certainly impractical to talk of a cure for stress in the sense of eliminating stress completely from our lives. There are, however, several practical steps which you can take to minimize its effect.

Most people tend to ignore stress for far too long, allowing it to build up. They will normally say either that they're too busy to worry about it or that there's nothing that they can do to change the situation. A commonly heard statement is, "Oh well, that's life". However, the effects of stress certainly do not have to be an inevitable part of life and it is unwise to accept them as such.

Stress Relief

Stress is the condition that results when person-environment transactions lead the individual to perceive a discrepancy, whether real or not, between the demands of a situation and the resources of the person's biological, psychological or social systems. It is the "wear and tear" our bodies experience as we adjust to our continually changing environment; it has physical and emotional effects on us and can create positive or negative feelings.

Usually, stress is one of those things that can't be seen, but you know it's there. It's sort of like an evil entity that attacks the body and mind. You get the aches and pains, right? I think it's safe to say that we all do at times. For some of us it is much worse than it is for others. Maybe it's connected to work, or possibly related to your home life. Some folks even inherit high stress levels. Pretty much everything is genetic we're finding out. And then there's stress relieving. But, how is this done? Well, this really depends on you and what you prefer. There are several routes to stress reduction.

Prozac, A Cure for Lazy Eye?

Amblyopia, or lazy eye is reduced vision in one eye as a result of a sustained period of visual neglect in childhood. The antidepressant medication Prozac, has been shown with continuous administration to reinstate ocular dominance plasticity in adulthood.

Amblyopia, or lazy eye is reduced vision in one eye as a result of a sustained period of visual neglect in childhood, resulting in neither eye glasses nor medical treatment improving the vision in that Amblyopic eye. During infancy, an infant’s neurological system is very flexible, and can easily adapt to changing environmental stimuli. As such, during these formative years our visual systems learn how to function. If during that time one eye does not get adequate visual stimuli it will not develop to the same level as the other eye.

Out of dumb luck, and only dumb luck have I learned a great deal about neurochemistry.

Serotonin is the neurotransmitter most closely associated with the feeling of happiness.

Tryptophan was made illegal as a supplement within 1 week of Prozac making the cover of time magazine as the drug of the future.

Sexuality and Spirituality - Tantra and Tao

Sexuality has traditionally been seen as an enemy of spirituality. However, another relationship is possible and we can learn from some of the cultures that had it.

Sexuality has always been the archenemy of religious and spiritual doctrines. All across the globe, from Buddhist monasteries to Christian churches and Muslim mosques, the sex drive of human is routinely considered the lowliest form of existence, the biggest hindrance on the path to God or enlightenment. Even in the recent wave of new age that is sweeping away religious footholds with its synthetic and eclectic approach, sexuality is still viewed as something we have to move away from rather than embrace. It might not be viewed as sin any more, at least not as much, but it is still seen as a primitive and wild force that doesn't let us grow spiritually.

Poll: Do You Eat Like a Bird or Have a Healthy Appetite?

Nothing against light eaters, but I appreciate a pal who can finish her plate. I don't mean this in a gluttonous eat-everything-on-your-plate sort of way, but a healthy appetite isn't something to be ashamed of, you know? Where do you fall on the spectrum: from hungry man-sized appetite to little baby bird?

****

Isn't it annoying when women fall into the thinking that it's unflattering to eat? I've had friends who order dinner at restaurants and just pick at it--literally. At times I've wondered if they actually ate anything! I hate to say it, but I always noticed that this behavior would worsen when guys were present.

Poll: Are You Starting to Worry About Swine Flu? (There's H1N1 Hysteria Going on in England)

While the CDC hasn't issued a warning explicitly stating that swine flu, or, ahem, H1N1, is going to return this fall with a vengeance, it's easy to feel a little edgy about what to expect. After all, experts are speculating about just how bad it could get--even making death predictions. And it seems that people in England are going a little cuckoo over the flu...

****

I like to read up on health news from the other side of the Atlantic now and then. Occasionally I'll learn hear about a new trend that hasn't quite hit the U.S. yet, or a wacky health story that we can all learn from. But lately, it seems, that the health reporting out of Europe--namely, the U.K.--has become 24-7 swine-flu hysteria. There have been reports that surgical masks and antibacterial hand gels (which, experts point out, don't kill the flu) are nearly sold out in Great Britain. And now, I'm hearing the crazy news that people are panicking so much, they're already identifying suitable locations for mass grave sites in the event of mass deaths.

Phen375 or Slim Weight Patch?

Phen375 fat burning pill or Slim Weight diet patches - what will be the most proper choice for effective, fast and risk-free weight losing? Read the article to get the answer.

The applying of trans-dermal patches in medicine is not a new concept, but is highly innovative for an extra fat loss supplement. Patches are great methods to make use of a product which, if taken orally, is likely to cause stomach upset in some consumers. They are also applied as nicotine replacement, long-term birth control and other hormonal issues, and inside the delivery of ache medication.

For example, a physician may easily prescribe the Fentanyl trans-skin patch for narcotic pain treatment for a patient who may nicely forget to take a tablet by mouth or who has troubles swallowing pills. The same principle applies for the Slim Weight Patch.

Jealous Pets: What to Consider Before Making Household Changes

There is a lot to evaluate before expanding your furry-legged family by introducing new pets into the household, from added monetary considerations to more responsibilities and commitment.  Perhaps even greater than those factors is the impact of changing the existing household dynamic – namely, how your current pet will react to a new addition.

Stress and your pet

More than likely, your pet has been fond of being the center of attention, and making room for someone else to share the spotlight will require some extra effort on your part and other family members. Having a plan for the new pet in your home will make the change easier for everyone, while helping to avoid possible conflicts between the animals.

First clue that this new workout DVD program is going to be a killer: it's name. A 60-day DVD fitness program called Insanity Fitness isn't for wimps. But if you want to bite the bullet, so to speak, here's an option (not for the faint of heart). One fitness blogger tried it and gives her review ...

Oh my goodness, I'm frightened just looking at that photo! But, we all respond to different stimulus and motivation, and lots of people are raving about the effectiveness of Insanity: The Ultimate Cardio Workout and Fitness DVD Program. Since I messed up my abs in a fitness boot camp last summer, I'm too wimpy to check this one out, so I was happy to see that fitness blogger Gina over at The Fitnessista did--and she seems to be loving it so far.

Is Samantha Encouraging Lindsay to Be Super-Skinny?

In today's celeb health news, I bring you another page from the Samantha Ronson-Lindsay Lohan saga. The latest buzz? Some are saying that Sam is a bad influence on Lindsay in the body image department. The young starlet seems to be slimmer than ever, and one source says Sam is the reason. Do you buy it?

According to reports, Lindsay is losing weight and some blame Samantha. These reports are totally unsubstantiated (and um, how do these UK celeb gossip sites actually find their sources from across the pond anyway?), but it does make you wonder about how relationships affect our size. Speaking of which, check out this past Vitamin G post (in case you missed it) about what research says about weight gain/loss over the course of a relationship.

Is Milk Bad for Cats?

The notion to feed cats milk has become ingrained in the minds of many pet owners, thanks to the media and pop culture featuring healthy cats lapping up bowls of dairy. However, the truth of matter is that cats actually do not receive any notable health benefits from milk… rather, they may develop adverse effects from it!

Just as holistic health is important for sustainable health in cats, so is proper nutrition. Cats benefit most from a well-balanced diet with foods specially designed for their needs and digestive systems. Kittens’ bodies have the necessary enzymes to digest their mother’s milk. However, with age, this enzyme production slows, leading to most adult cats being considered lactose-intolerant. While cats can tolerate small quantities of milk, the sugars in it will likely cause digestive upset in their delicate systems, leading to stomach troubles such as cramps, gas, and diarrhea.

Have a Daily Dose of Omega-3

What do my dog, horse and husband all have in common -- besides me? All three start the day with a sprinkle of omega-3 in their breakfast bowls. Maybe you do, too.

The animals are sublimely unaware that they consume it (in the form of flaxseed) or why (because of evidence it may ease arthritic aches and pains and put a shine on their coats). But my husband is on to the health benefits. He has a daily, 2-tablespoon, 3,500-milligram dose of ground flaxseed on his granola. He says it has a "nutty" taste.

Cardiologists praise omega-3 fatty acids. Found in fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, as well as in flaxseed, canola oil and walnuts, they protect the heart against inflammation that can result in blocked arteries and can prevent irregular heartbeats that can lead to a sudden heart attack. And there's growing evidence that these polyunsaturated fats avert strokes, reduce inflammation and joint pain from arthritis, and promote brain and vision development in infants. Statistics even link omega-3s to broader health benefits -- for example, they may ward off complications from diabetes. They're being used to treat depression and Alzheimer's disease. Better skin, stronger fingernails and more energy are also possible perks.

Hatchoo! Is Vegetarianism Contagious?

Ever spent some time with a vegetarian and started to feel repulsed by meat? One minute you're craving a burger, the next you're thinking about how adorable cows are and opting for a Boca instead (not that that's a bad thing!). According to Bonnie Taub-Dix, a registered dietician in New York and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, vegetarianism can indeed "rub off" on you.

Just like other behaviors that we learn from the people we associate with and admire, says Taub-Dix, eating habits can be contagious. While vegetarianism isn't such a bad thing to "catch," she says the reverse is true: If you spend all your time with a junk-food-aholic there's a good chance you could become one too. Bottom line, says Taub-Dix: "Hang out with people who eat well."

Happiness Flashback: What Did You Used to Call Certain Foods as Kids?

I had a funny flashback yesterday when slicing up an apple. I had somehow completely forgotten that we never called them "apples" in my house. As kids, we called them this goofy name (and tell me what cute family names you had for different foods)...

****

Apples were called "boppies." Funny, huh? And the crazy thing is that as an adult, I still look at them and think "boppies." More embarrassing familia food language:

*Bananas: "ga-nans"

*Chocolate milk: "cockit milk" (we have my brother to thank for this oddball name)

*Waffles: "wahfs"

Now that I'm a mom, we have a whole new language we're developing here. Avocados, for instance, will forever be called "eye-ohs."

Depression Test

It is very important to test depression and identify whether one is suffering from it. This can help you to deal with the condition better and treat it. The following article will tell you about what a depression test is and give you some examples.

Depression is a commonly used term in our daily lives. We say it quite easily to indicate that we are feeling extremely sad, morose, troubled and/or bland. But depression is not merely a 'mood' - like having the blues. Every person feels sad from time to time, but depression is when one feels like that at all times for prolonged periods of time - it is a psychological disorder. It is not physical and therefore, it cannot be seen as a hurt or wound. But there you are wrong. You can identify depression. Depression leaves some telltale signs in its wake, that if carefully studied, will help you identify whether a person is suffering from depression or not. A depression test is used for identifying these depression symptoms. Let us give you a few examples of depression tests, see how they work and also learn about some of the types of questions that are used for depression testing.

Halle Berry: Living with Diabetes

Halle Berry is in the news this week for her new role in the movie 'Shoes Addicts Anonymous'.  When we think of Halle Berry we think of an empowered and successful women who has accomplished an extraordinary amount in her young life.  We also think of a woman who is living with diabetes.

In 1989, during the taping of Living Dolls, a short lived television series, the actress lapsed into a coma and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.  The American Diabetes Association estimates that 500,000 to 1 million people in the US have this condition.  Type 1 diabetes is a disorder caused by autoimmune distruction of the insulin secreting cells of the pancreas resulting in the body's inability to produce sufficient insulin to meet bodily needs.

Diet for Low Blood Sugar - Hypoglycemia Diet

When blood sugar levels are lower than normal it is known as hypoglycemia. A hypoglycemia diet involves including certain foods while avoiding others. Read more about it here.

When the blood glucose level falls lower than normal the condition is known as hypoglycemia. Certain diseases like some kinds of tumors and liver disease cause a certain type of hypoglycemia, known as organic hypoglycemia, which usually need surgical or medical treatment. However, there is another kind of hypoglycemia, which affects some people in whom the body responds in a different manner when food is digested.

Some types of foods are digested as well as absorbed swiftly, which results in a sharp spike of glucose in the bloodstream. While the body adjusts quite smoothly to this spike in most people, in some people there is an over-reaction, and a process is set off to lower the blood glucose, resulting in a sharp drop in the blood glucose level. The body then releases adrenaline in order to increase the blood glucose level. This is referred to as Reactive Hypoglycemia, wherein the body simply over-reacts. This usually takes place about 1-3 hours after a meal. Reactive hypoglycemia can be managed by having glucose getting into the bloodstream at an even and steady pace, which can be done by changing eating habits and devising a hypoglycemia diet.

Does Subway Have a Dirty Little Health Secret?

I know a lot of people who love Subway and think it's the healthiest fast food option out there. Not so, say some health experts who exposed a shocking secret from the sandwich chain ...

In the news this month, Subway restaurants in Illinois were reported to be contaminated with salmonella, which sickened many people (120 people and counting, and 1 death). But, that aside, Subway is back in the news again, this time for an ingredient lurking in their breads. That's right: high fructose corn syrup. In fact, it's loaded with the the stuff.

From Yahoo Shine: "David Zinczenko, author of the Eat This, Not That series, recently outed Subway for serving a 9-grain wheat that actually has more high fructose corn syrup in it than it does whole grains. If you read the ingredients label for Subway's 9-grain wheat you'll see that there are nine grains, but eight of them are scarce, as they appear on the listing toward the end behind the "contains 2% or less" disclaimer. The fourth ingredient is high fructose corn syrup."
