Low potassium level

Prozac, A Cure for Lazy Eye?

Amblyopia, or lazy eye is reduced vision in one eye as a result of a sustained period of visual neglect in childhood. The antidepressant medication Prozac, has been shown with continuous administration to reinstate ocular dominance plasticity in adulthood.

Amblyopia, or lazy eye is reduced vision in one eye as a result of a sustained period of visual neglect in childhood, resulting in neither eye glasses nor medical treatment improving the vision in that Amblyopic eye. During infancy, an infant’s neurological system is very flexible, and can easily adapt to changing environmental stimuli. As such, during these formative years our visual systems learn how to function. If during that time one eye does not get adequate visual stimuli it will not develop to the same level as the other eye.

Prozac

All about Prozac: Did you know that millions of Americans were naturally elevating their serotonin levels using tryptophan? Oddly enough, this is the same neurotransmitter that Prozac plays with.

Out of dumb luck, and only dumb luck have I learned a great deal about neurochemistry.

Serotonin is the neurotransmitter most closely associated with the feeling of happiness.

Tryptophan was made illegal as a supplement within 1 week of Prozac making the cover of time magazine as the drug of the future.

Sexuality and Spirituality - Tantra and Tao

Sexuality has traditionally been seen as an enemy of spirituality. However, another relationship is possible and we can learn from some of the cultures that had it.

Sexuality has always been the archenemy of religious and spiritual doctrines. All across the globe, from Buddhist monasteries to Christian churches and Muslim mosques, the sex drive of human is routinely considered the lowliest form of existence, the biggest hindrance on the path to God or enlightenment. Even in the recent wave of new age that is sweeping away religious footholds with its synthetic and eclectic approach, sexuality is still viewed as something we have to move away from rather than embrace. It might not be viewed as sin any more, at least not as much, but it is still seen as a primitive and wild force that doesn't let us grow spiritually.

Poll: Do You Eat Like a Bird or Have a Healthy Appetite?

Nothing against light eaters, but I appreciate a pal who can finish her plate. I don't mean this in a gluttonous eat-everything-on-your-plate sort of way, but a healthy appetite isn't something to be ashamed of, you know? Where do you fall on the spectrum: from hungry man-sized appetite to little baby bird?

****

Isn't it annoying when women fall into the thinking that it's unflattering to eat? I've had friends who order dinner at restaurants and just pick at it--literally. At times I've wondered if they actually ate anything! I hate to say it, but I always noticed that this behavior would worsen when guys were present.

Poll: Are You Starting to Worry About Swine Flu? (There's H1N1 Hysteria Going on in England)

While the CDC hasn't issued a warning explicitly stating that swine flu, or, ahem, H1N1, is going to return this fall with a vengeance, it's easy to feel a little edgy about what to expect. After all, experts are speculating about just how bad it could get--even making death predictions. And it seems that people in England are going a little cuckoo over the flu...

****

I like to read up on health news from the other side of the Atlantic now and then. Occasionally I'll learn hear about a new trend that hasn't quite hit the U.S. yet, or a wacky health story that we can all learn from. But lately, it seems, that the health reporting out of Europe--namely, the U.K.--has become 24-7 swine-flu hysteria. There have been reports that surgical masks and antibacterial hand gels (which, experts point out, don't kill the flu) are nearly sold out in Great Britain. And now, I'm hearing the crazy news that people are panicking so much, they're already identifying suitable locations for mass grave sites in the event of mass deaths.
